Bold costume designs for science fiction must serve a function and look exotic. A planet where human eyesight must be protected and enhanced would wear these.
I was researching fresh ideas for costumes for my next project. Costumes clearly set the tone, look and feel of a movie. Dirty well-worn for the spaceship crew and something strange and exotic for the several planets and societies they will visit. Brown and gray are used extensively because of green screen restrictions. But if one is careful with it’s use, you can use costumes to reflect the culture these societies exist in with a lot more color.
All humans like to decorate themselves and be practical for warmth, safety, and function. I ran across some cool stuff that I might be able to innovate into something for my project. My project is a small cast so I can make a few elaborate costume/prop pieces. Whatever the prop costume entails, it has to serve a function for the environment and culture they live in.
Here are samples I found for pondering. You might be able to imagine for each one what their purpose is and what type of culture they live in, what type of planet they live on. Some planets are harsher than others.
